by Arseny Arkad'yevich Golenishchev-Kutuzov (1848 - 1913)

Ona pred ikonoj stojala svjatoju
Language: Russian (Русский)
Our translations:  ENG
Ona pred ikonoj stojala svjatoju;
Skrestilisja ruki, usta shevelilis';
Iz glaz jeja sljozy odna za drugoju
Po blednym shchekam zhemchugami katilis'.

Ona povtorjala vse ch'jo-to nazvan'e,
I vzor ozarjalsja molitvennym svetom;
I bylo tak mnogo ljubvi i stradan'ja,
Tak malo nadezhdy v molenii `etom!

Ona preklonilas' i dolgo lezhala,
Pril'nuv golovoju k zemle bezotvetnoj,
Kak budto v tomlen'i nemom ozhidala,
Chto golos nad neju razdastsja privetnyj.

No bylo vse tikho v molchanii nochi,
Lampada mercala vo mrake trevozhnom,
I skorbno smotreli Spasitelja ochi
[Na tu, chto s molen'em prishla nevozmozhnym!]1
