from Volkslieder (Folksongs)
Translation by Siegfried Kapper (1821 - 1879)

Жеља обога
Language: Serbian (Српски)
Девојчица воду гази,
  Ноге јој се беле,
За њом момче коња јаше,
  Гроотом се смеје:
"Гази, гази, девојчице,
  "Не би л' моја била!" --
"Кад би знала и видела,
  "Да би твоја била,
"Млеком би се умивала,
  "Да би бела била;
"Ружом би се утирала;
  "Да б' румена била;
"Свилом би се опасала,
  "Да би танка била."

Spielt das Mädchen, spielt am Wasser
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Serbian (Српски)
Spielt das Mädchen, spielt am Wasser,
  Ihre Füßlein schimmern;
Kommt ein Knabe, kommt zu Rosse,
  Lacht darüber helllaut:
"Spiel', o Mädchen! Spiele, spiel' nur!
  Wirst am End' die Meine!"
Und das Mädchen, weiter spielend,
  Ihm darauf erwiedert:
"Wüßt' ich es, und wär' es sicher,
  Daß ich einst die Deine,
Würd' ich wol in Milch mich baden,
  Würde weiß wie Milch ist;
Würde mich mit Rosen trocknen,
  Würde roth wie Rosen;
Würde mich mit Seide gürten,
  Würde schlank und niedlich!"
