How can I call the lone night good, Though thy sweet wishes wing its flight? Be it not said, thought, understood -- Then it will be -- good night. To hearts which near each other move From evening close to morning light, The night is good; because, my love, They never say good-night.

Ah, de-am rămâne veșnic împreună, Atunce numai fi-va noapte bună! Cum va fi bună noaptea fără tine, Oricât aș ști că dorul tău fierbinte Îi dă avânt spre zorile senine? Când nu va trece nimănui prin minte Când rostul nu va trebui s-o spună - Atunce numai fi-va noapte bună... Ah! Pentru inimile-alăturate, Ce-și simt bătăile îngemănate Din asfințit în zori tot împreună, Precât ar fi adânci și nesfârșite, Atât mai dulci sunt nopțile iubite! De-aceea când mă lași tot în furtună, Nu mai șopti durerii: „Noapte bună”!
