Alfonso:
Schon wenn es beginnt zu tagen,
 wird in mir die Sehnsucht wach;
 Vögel fliegen, Wolken jagen
und mein Herz will ihnen nach.

 Mittags lieg'ich an der Quelle
 an dem hellen Silberbach,
 Welle sendet er auf Welle
und mein Herz eilt jeder nach.

 Seh'ich dann den Abend glühen
 und das Licht stirbt allgemach,
 möcht'ich mit der Sonne ziehen
 ihren gold'nen Strahlen nach.

 Nachts erglänzen tausend Sterne
 an des Himmels blauem Dach,
mächtig zieht's mich in die Ferne
 ihrem süßen Schimmer nach.

Und dann lispl'ich in die Saiten
 still ein Schmerz erpresstes Ach,
 schnell entflieht's in alle Weiten
und mein Herze will ihm nach.

Al zodra 't begint te dagen
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Alfonso:
Al zodra 't begint te dagen,
 Maakt verlangen zijn entree.
 Vogels vliegen, wolken jagen
En mijn hart wil met hen mee.

's Middags lig ik aan het water,
 Bij de held're zilv'ren beek,
 Golven stuwt zij, eerder, later,
En mijn hart volgt al wat week.

Zie ik dan de dag gaan kwijnen,
En het licht dooft uit weldra,
Zou 'k graag met de zon verdwijnen,
 Vlug haar gouden stralen na.

 's Nachts verschijnen duizend sterren
 Aan het blauwe hemeldak,
Machtig trekt me dat naar 't verre,
 Mee in 't lichtend wereldwak.

En dan lisp'l ik in de snaren
 Stil een smartelijke zucht,
Snel is die ver weg gevaren
En mijn hart zoekt ook de vlucht.
