Alors qu'avec Socrate ses amis buvaient
Et que leurs têtes sombraient sur les coussins,
Arriva un jeune homme, je m'en souviens,
Accompagné de deux sveltes joueuses de flûte.
Nous renversons le fond des gobelets,
Les lèvres fatiguées de parler se taisent.
Autour des couronnes fanées s'élève un chant ...
Dans le silence chante la flûte somnolente de la mort.
