Durchs Feld wie weißer Duft, 
Die muntern Schwalben schweben 
In hoher, blauer Luft.
Sie üben die Flügel zur fröhlichen Reise; 
Denn über die Hügel, da säuselt es leise:
"Lieb Vöglein mein,
Der Winter zieht ins Land hinein!" 

Die Herden aus der Weide 
Gehn heim zur Winterruh'! 
Die Blümlein auf der Heide 
Thun ihre Äuglein zu.
Es wehen und streicheln die spielenden Winde
Und wehen und schmeicheln so leis' und so linde:
"Lieb Blümlein mein, 
Der böse Winter kommt, schlaft ein!"
