 Oh, wenn des Mondes Strahlen leise gleiten,
 und Friede sich und Ruh durchs All verbreiten,
 nicht Wasser dünkt mich dann des Meeres Raum,
 und jener Wald scheint nicht Gebüsch und Baum.
 Das sind nicht Wolken, die den Himmel schmücken,
 und Tal und Hügel nicht der Erde Rücken,
 und Form und Farbenspiel, nur eitle Schäume,
 und alles Abglanz nur der Gottesträume.

 Ô quand les rayons de la lune glissent doucement
 et que la paix et le repos s'étendent sur tout,
 alors l'étendue de la mer ne me semble pas être d'eau
 et la forêt ne m'apparaît pas comme buissons et arbres.
 Ce ne sont pas des nuages qui ornent le ciel,
 les vallons et les collines ne sont pas le dos de la terre,
 et les formes et le jeu des couleurs ne sont que pure écume,
 et tout  n'est que le reflet des rêves de Dieu.
