Las leves ondas que jugando riza;
El sol besa a la nube en Occidente,
Y de púrpura y oro la matiza;
La llama en derredor del tronco ardiente
Por besar a otra llama se desliza,
Y hasta el sauce, inclinándose a su peso, 
Al río que le besa, vuelve un beso.

Es küssen die leise aufseufzenden Lüfte
die leichten Wellen, dass sie spielend sich kräuseln;
und die Abendsonn’ küsst die Wolke im Westen,
bemalt sie in purpurnen, goldenen Tönen.
Die feurigen Strahlen umzingeln die Stämme 
wie Flammen, die suchen, die andern zu küssen;
die Weide, gebeugt unter eigener Schwere,
küsst gar den Fluss, der diesen erwidert.
