't Is nacht met koele maneschijn, de oude gevels dagen: de buidel is nu ingepakt, de poort daar staat de wagen. Daar bij de poortweg stonden zij getweeen, 't was maar even... Ze spraken over liefd' en trouw en verder gaat 't leven. Het laatste roosje gaf zij hem, nu is het afgelopen, zij kuste hem ten afscheid nog en kon alleen nog hopen. De hoefslag klinkt, de posthoorn schalt, vertrektijd is gekomen: het voeld' alsof daar met die koets haar geluk was meegenomen.
