Noch immer, Frühling, bist du nicht
Gekommen in mein Tal,
Wo ich dein liebes Angesicht
Begrüßt [das letztemal]1.

Noch stehn die Bäume dürr und bar
Um deinen Weg herum
Und strecken, eine Bettlerschar,
Nach dir die Arme stumm.

Frühblumen wähnten dich schon hier,
Frost bringt sie um ihr Glück,
Sie sehnten sich heraus nach dir
Und können nicht zurück.

Die Schwalbe fliegt bestürzt umher
Und ruft nach dir voll Gram,
Bereut schon, daß sie übers Meer
Zu früh herüberkam.

Ici, des fleurs précoces t'ont déjà imaginé,
Le gel leur a ôté toute chance,
Elles ont jailli, se languissant de toi
Et ne peuvent revenir en arrière.

L'hirondelle vole éperdue, ici et là
Et crie après toi, pleine de rancune,
Regrettant déjà d'avoir passé la mer
Pour arriver trop tôt ici.
