Viol
Language: Danish (Dansk)

Min lille Blomst ! Min lille Fugl !
Jeg ser dig fra mit mørke Skjul.
Jeg vil jo intet gøre dig.
Ak, det var Sund at røre dig !
Om blot det var at bukke sig,
jeg voved ej at plukke dig
og røve dig din klare Sol,
Viol ! Viol !

Min lille Blomst ! Min lille Fugl !
Jeg ser dig fra mit mørke Skjul.
Naar blot jeg maa betragte dig,
saa maa du godt foragte mig.
Jeg vil jo ikke bryde dig,
jeg vil jo bare fryde mig
og aande i den samme Sol
som du, Viol !

Min lille Blomst ! Min lille Fugl !
Jeg ser dig fra mit mørke Skjul.
Men ser jeg ham, som plukker dig,
saa sorger jeg, saa sukker jeg.
Jeg kan jo aldrig række dig ;
men han vil en Gang vække dig
af Blomsterdrøm i Sommersol,
Viol ! Viol !

F. Delius sets stanzas 1-2

Violette
Language: French (Français)  after the Danish (Dansk)
Ma petite fleur, mon petit oiseau !
Je te vois depuis ma sombre retraite.
Je ne veux certes rien te faire.
C'était hélas un péché que de te toucher !
Et même simplement de se pencher,
je n'ai pas osé te cueillir,
et te ravir ton lumineux soleil,
Violette ! Violette !

Ma petite fleur, mon petit oiseau !
Je te vois depuis ma sombre retraite.
Si je peux simplement te contempler,
tu peux tout aussi bien me mépriser.
Je ne veux certes pas te briser
je veux seulement me réjouir
et respirer au même soleil
que toi, Violette !

Ma petite fleur, mon petit oiseau !
Je te vois depuis ma sombre retraite.
Mais si je voyais quelqu'un te cueillir,
alors j'aurais de la peine, je soupirerais.
Je peux bien ne jamais tendre la main vers toi ;
mais il voudra un jour te sortir
des rêves des fleurs au soleil d'été,
Violette ! Violette !
