Ich horche dem Wasser im Rohre --
Mein Liebster, wo ziehest du fern?

Ich ging am Mittag im Felde,
Da donnert es dumpf und fern,
Schwarz ziehen die Wolken am Himmel --
Ach Liebster, wo streitest du fern?

Zu Mittnacht rief dreimal im Walde
Ein Todtenvogel mir fern,
Als ich am Kreuzweg gestanden --
O Liebster, wo starbest du fern?

Im weichen grünen Klee.
