An dem grünbeflognen Hang Ist schon Veilchenblau erklungen, Nur den schwarzen Wald entlang Liegt noch Schnee in zackigen Zungen. Tropfen aber schmilzt um Tropfen hin, Aufgesogen von der durstigen Erde, Und am blassen Himmel oben ziehn Lämmerwolken in beglänzter Herde. Finkenruf verliebt schmilzt im Gesträuch: Menschen, singt auch ihr und liebet euch!

Es fahren leise junge Wolken durchs Blaue, Kinder singen und Blumen lachen im Gras; Meine müden Augen, wohin ich schaue, Wollen vergessen, was ich in Büchern las. Wahrlich alles Schwere, das ich gelesen, Stäubt hinweg und war nur ein Winterwahn, Meine Augen schauen erfrischt und genesen Eine neue, erquellende Schöpfung an. Aber was mir im eigenen Herzen geschrieben, Von der Vergänglichkeit aller Schöne steht, Ist von Frühling zu Frühling stehen geblieben, Wird von keinem Winde mehr weggeweht.

Die warme Zeit ist wieder da, Nun gehen allwärts fern und nah Die Vagabunden auf den Strich Und keiner rastet mehr als ich. O wollte Gott mein Bein wär heil -- Ich ließ dem Armenhaus mein Teil Und ginge über Flur und Bach Ins Weite meinen Brüdern nach. Nun aber sitz ich bis zur Nacht Im Hoftor einsam auf der Wacht, Und kommt ein Wandrer ohne Schuh, Ruf ich ihm traurig Servus zu!
