Sechs Lieder nach Gedichten von Hermann Hesse

Song Cycle by Werner Bühler (1904 - 1968)

1. Reiselied
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Sonne, leuchte mir ins Herz hinein,
Wind, verweh mir Sorgen und Beschwerden!
Tiefere Wonne weiß ich nicht auf Erden,
Als im Weiten unterwegs zu sein.

Nach der Ebene nehm ich meinen Lauf,
Sonne soll mich sengen, Meer mich kühlen;
Unsrer Erde Leben mitzufühlen,
Tu ich alle Sinne festlich auf.

Und so soll mir jeder neue Tag
Neue Freunde, neue Brüder weisen,
Bis ich leidlos alle Kräfte preisen,
Aller Sterne Gast und Freund sein mag.

2. Allein
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Es führen über die Erde
Straßen und Wege viel,
Aber alle haben
Dasselbe Ziel.

Du kannst reiten und fahren
Zu zweien und zu drein,
Den letzten Schritt mußt du
Gehen allein.

Drum ist kein Wissen
Noch Können so gut,
Als daß man alles Schwere
Alleine tut.

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Allein", written 1906

3. März
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
An dem grünbeflognen Hang
Ist schon Veilchenblau erklungen,
Nur den schwarzen Wald entlang
Liegt noch Schnee in zackigen Zungen.
Tropfen aber schmilzt um Tropfen hin,
Aufgesogen von der durstigen Erde,
Und am blassen Himmel oben ziehn
Lämmerwolken in beglänzter Herde.
Finkenruf verliebt schmilzt im Gesträuch:
Menschen, singt auch ihr und liebet euch!

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "März", subtitle: "(Februar 1921)", written 1921

4. Schnee
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn der Schnee auf Wald und Garten fällt,
Ist es nur ein leichtes Ruhedach,
Unter dem ermüdet diese Welt
Eine Weile schläft. Bald wird sie wach.

Wenn der Tod mir Blut und Glieder stillt,
Sprecht mit Lächeln euer Trauerwort!
Still in Trümmer sinkt ein flüchtig Bild;
Was ich bin und war, lebt fort und fort.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Schnee", written 1917

5. Frühling
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Es fahren leise junge Wolken durchs Blaue,
Kinder singen und Blumen lachen im Gras;
Meine müden Augen, wohin ich schaue,
Wollen vergessen, was ich in Büchern las.

Wahrlich alles Schwere, das ich gelesen,
Stäubt hinweg und war nur ein Winterwahn,
Meine Augen schauen erfrischt und genesen
Eine neue, erquellende Schöpfung an.

Aber was mir im eigenen Herzen geschrieben,
Von der Vergänglichkeit aller Schöne steht,
Ist von Frühling zu Frühling stehen geblieben,
Wird von keinem Winde mehr weggeweht.

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Frühling", written 1907

6. Der alte Landstreicher
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Die warme Zeit ist wieder da,
Nun gehen allwärts fern und nah
Die Vagabunden auf den Strich
Und keiner rastet mehr als ich.

O wollte Gott mein Bein wär heil --
Ich ließ dem Armenhaus mein Teil
Und ginge über Flur und Bach
Ins Weite meinen Brüdern nach.

Nun aber sitz ich bis zur Nacht
Im Hoftor einsam auf der Wacht,
Und kommt ein Wandrer ohne Schuh,
Ruf ich ihm traurig Servus zu!

Text Authorship:

  • by Hermann Hesse (1877 - 1962), "Der alte Landstreicher", written 1902
