English translations of Zwei geistliche Gesänge zur Trauungsfeier, opus 53
by Max Peters (1849 - 1927)

Wherever you go, there will I also go, And where you abide, there will I also abide! Wherever you go, there I also go! Your people are my people and your God is my God! Where you die, there also will I die, And where you rest, there will I be buried, And only death shall part us!

Where love dwells, The house burgeons with greenery and blossoms; With open hands, God dispenses Bliss, well-being, and peace, And every hour, heart with heart Is yet more tightly bound together. Where love dwells, Nothing is lacking; Even the deepest sorrow is soon healed By love's gentle but powerful imperative, Yes, a new blessing, New joy sprouts from the dark pathways. Where love dwells, There alone dwells happiness, So that, rejoicing, the soul hastens Back into Paradise, And must in new melodies Praise God's faithfulness day after day.
