Die Wellen blinken und fließen dahin,
Es liebt sich so lieblich im Lenze!
Am Flusse sitzet die Schäferin 
Und windet die zärtlichsten Kränze.

Das knospet und quillt und duftet und blüht,
es liebt sich so lieblich im Lenze!
Die Schäferin seufzt aus tiefer Brust:
»Wem geb' ich meine Kränze?«

Ein Reiter reitet den Fluß entlang,
er grüßet so blühenden Mutes,
die Schäferin schaut ihm nach so bang,
fern flattert die Feder des Hutes.

Sie weint und wirft in den gleitenden Fluß
die schönen Blumenkränze.
Die Nachtigall singt von Lieb' und Kuß,
es liebt sich so lieblich im Lenze!

Note: in later editions, Heine changed "quillt und duftet und blüht" to "quillt, mit duftender Lust" in stanza 2, line 1. In addition, "vollem Gemüt" was changed to "tiefer Brust" in stanza 2, line 3.

l’amor és tan dolç a primavera!
La pastora sospira des del fons del cor:
“A qui donaré les meves garlandes?”

Un cavaller s’apropa al llarg del riu,
la saluda amb un ànim exuberant,
la pastora l’esguarda molt neguitosa,
al lluny oneja la ploma del seu capell.

Ella plora i llença al corrent del riu
les boniques garlandes.
El rossinyol canta d’amors i besades,
l’amor és tan dolç a primavera!

sovint emblanquines els boscos i els camps,
dones a les muntanyes, dones a les valls,
sospirs de sentiment.

Sigues confident de les meves penes,
tu que navegues a l’oceà dels aires:
digues-li, a la que porto al meu cor
com m’està matant la pena d’amor.

Digues-li que des de mil milles
per ella sospira el meu cor.
“Cap distància el pot guarir,
només el teu amorós esguard.”

Digues-li que, ferida de mort,
aquesta despulla aviat es descompondrà;
tan sols una falaguera esperança
la podria salvar.
