Wie's aussieht im ew'gen Freudenhain, Im Himmel, dem hohen, da droben, Das wissen die kleinen Kindlein allein, Sie kommen ja grade von oben. Doch sie können's nicht sagen, unmündig und klein, Sie müssen's verschweigen indessen: Und wachsen heran sie und plaudern sie fein, Dann haben sie's leider vergessen.

1. La més petita cançó

Quin aspecte té l’etern bosquet de la joia, al cel, el més alt, allà dalt, això ho saben els petits infants, només els petits, ells vénen justament d’allà dalt. Però ells no ho poden dir, petits i immadurs, entretant ho han de callar: i després creixen i parlen a pler car llavors, malauradament, ja ho han oblidat.

2. Pythia

Hat einmal ein Mädel die Muhme gefragt, Was Liebe denn eigentlich sei? Da machte die Alte ein pfiffig Gesicht Und lachte so eigen dabei. "Die Liebe? Das ist ein verschlossener Schrein, Sieht außen gar unschuldig aus, Doch hebst du im Fürwitz den Deckel, mein Kind, Springt hurtig ein Teufelchen 'raus." Das Mägdlein ist 'gangen, es ließ ihm der Spruch Der Alten nicht Frieden noch Ruh', Stand bald mit dem hurtigen Teufelein Im Kästchen auf "Du und Du."

2. Pítia

Alguna vegada una donzella ha preguntat a la tia que és veritablement l’amor? Aleshores la vella dama féu un rostre sorneguer i rigué amb un caire peculiar. “L’amor? És un cofre tancat, de fora sembla ben innocent però si per tafaneria obres la tapa, en surt prest un petit diable.” La donzella se’n anà, però les paraules de la vella li llevaren la pau i el repòs, ben aviat era amb l’àgil dimoniet de la caixeta: “Vinga tu, surt!”

Wie doch so still dir am Herzen Ruhet das Kind! Weiß nicht, wie Mutterschmerzen So herbe sind! Auf Stirn und Lippen und Wangen Ist schon vergangen Das süße Rot. Und dennoch heimlicherweise Lächelt es leise. -- Leise Küsset es der Tod!

Que tranquil al meu pit reposa l’infant! No sap com els dolors d’una mare poden ser tan amargs! Del front i dels llavis i de les galtes ja s’ha esvanit la dolça vermellor. I tanmateix, d’amagat, somriu dolçament. – Dolçament el besa la mort!
