Doch du, als die Nachtstunde schreitet voran, steuerst erkühnt eine andere Bahn, entkommst deinen engen Zäumen. Dann endlich erwachst du, mein Freund - zu spät, es gibt kein Zurück mehr, die Saat ist gesät. Oh, welche Rätsel vom Grund der Nacht, was für selt'ne Gesichte der Schlaf hat gebracht, oh, welch' gefährliche Träume!

Die Wiese sich breitet, dem Moore nah, zur Rast einladend, ruft freundlich "Bleib da!", Geschmiegt in die Hecke, beschirmt vor der Sonne, da saß sie, den Arm voller Blumen, das Lächeln voll Wonne. Duftend die Wiese und auch das Moor, er rührte sich nicht aus dem Schatten hervor. Er sah, wie sie wickelte; sah, wie sie band, bis er in den Schlingen gefangen sich fand.
