Der Abend schleiert Flur und Hain
In traulichholde Dämmrung ein;
Hell flimmt, wo goldne Wölkchen ziehn,
Der Stern der Liebeskönigin.

Die Wogenfluth hallt Schlummerklang,
Die Bäume lispeln Abendsang; 
Der Wiese Gras umgaukelt lind
Mit Sylphenkuß der Frühlingswind. 

Der Geist der Liebe wirkt und strebt,
Wo nur ein Puls der Schöpfung bebt;
Im Strom, wo Wog' in Woge fließt,
Im Hain, wo Blatt an Blatt sich schließt. 

O Geist der Liebe! führe du
Dem Jüngling die Erkorne zu!
Ein Minneblick der Trauten hellt
Mit Himmelsglanz die Erdenwelt!

Espíritu del amor

La tarde vela los campos y sotos
en acogedor y dulce crepúsculo;
clara centellea, donde doradas nubes se desplazan,
la estrella de la reina del amor.

Las ondulantes mareas resuenan con un somnoliento sonido,
los árboles susurran una canción de la tarde;
la hierba de la pradera agita suavemente
con un beso de sílfide el viento de primavera.

El espíritu del amor impresiona y entreteje,
donde sólo un pulso de la Creación bate;
en la corriente, donde la ola sobre ola fluye,
en el soto, donde la hoja con hoja se une.

Oh! espíritu del amor, conduce
el muchacho a su escogida!
Una dulce mirada de la querida ilumina
con celeste resplandor el mundo terrestre!
