Die Wogenfluth hallt Schlummerklang, Die Bäume lispeln Abendsang; Der Wiese Gras umgaukelt lind Mit Sylphenkuß der Frühlingswind. Der Geist der Liebe wirkt und strebt, Wo nur ein Puls der Schöpfung bebt; Im Strom, wo Wog' in Woge fließt, Im Hain, wo Blatt an Blatt sich schließt. O Geist der Liebe! führe du Dem Jüngling die Erkorne zu! Ein Minneblick der Trauten hellt Mit Himmelsglanz die Erdenwelt!

El capvespre envela els camps i els boscos en un entranyable, encisador crepuscle; clar llampurneja, allà on passen núvols daurats, l'estel de la reina de l'amor. La marejada ressona amb una cadència somnolent, els arbres xiuxiuegen el cant del capvespre; el vent de primavera, amb besades de sílfide, sacseja suaument l'herba de la prada. L'esperit de l'amor actua i malda, allà on solament un pols de la creació palpita; en el corrent, on l'onada segueix una altra onada, al boscatge, on una fulla s'ajunta amb una altra fulla. Oh esperit de l'amor! Condueix el jovencell vers la seva escollida! Un esguard amorós de l'estimada il•lumina, amb un esclat celestial, el món terrenal.
