Die standen traurig am Scheideweg,

Die Lüfte durchrauschen die Waldesruh', --
Aus dem Tal und aus der Höh'
Da wehn weiße Tücher einander zu:
»Ade! -- Ade -- Ade! --«

Come splendevano le stelle, chiare,
chiare dall'alto del cielo!
Due amanti stavano sulla soglia,
mano nella mano: "Addio!"

I fiori piangevano sul prato e sul sentiero,
sentivano la pena degli amanti,
che stavano tristi al bivio,
cuore a cuore: "Addio!"

Le aurette spiravano per il boschetto tranquillo,
dalla valle e dall'alto,
Due bianchi fazzoletti sventolano:
"Addio, addio, addio!"
