Und schöner noch als einst im Traum Begab es sich in Wirklichkeit -- Es war am grünen Waldesraum, Es war zur warmen Frühlingszeit: Der Waldbach schwoll, die Knospe sprang, Geläut erscholl vom Dorfe her -- Ich hielt dich fest, ich hielt dich lang -- Und lasse dich nun nimmermehr! Ik droomde eens een mooie droom: Een blonde meid was gek op mij; ‘t Was bij een bos, een groene zoom, ‘t Was op een warme dag in mei. Hout botte uit, de bosbeek zwol, Ver uit het dorp klonk klokgelui – Wij waren blij, van vreugde vol, Verkeerden in een zaal’ge bui. En mooier nog dan in die droom Gebeurde het in werk’lijkheid – ‘t Was bij een bos, een groene zoom, ’t Was in de warme lentetijd: De bosbeek zwol, hout botte uit, Van ’t dorp af klonk het luiden weer – Ik hield je vast, ik hield mijn bruid – Ik laat je los, nee, nimmer meer! O bos, o lentegroene zoom! Jij leeft in mij nog al die tijd – Daar werd de werk’lijkheid tot droom, Daar werd de droom tot werk’lijkheid!
