Ein Fichtenbaum steht einsam
Im Norden auf kahler Höh';
Ihn schläfert; mit weißer Decke
Umhüllen ihn Eis und Schnee.
Er träumt von einer Palme,
Die fern im Morgenland,
Einsam und schweigsam trauert
Auf brennender Felsenwand.
Composition:
Set to music by Joseph Marx (1882 - 1964), "Ein Fichtenbaum steht einsam", 1908, published 1912 [ medium voice and piano ], in Lieder und Gesänge, II. Folge, Nr.17
