Die Weinende
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the English
Available translation(s): CAT DUT ENG FRE
Ich [seh]1 dich weinen! ach! die Zähre
Schwamm auf des Auges Blau;
Und dieses Auge, dacht' ich, [wäre]2
Ein Veilchen, naß vom Thau.
Ich sah dich lächeln; Saphirschimmer
Trat matt vor dir zurück,
Den regen Glanz erreicht' er nimmer,
Der strahlt aus deinem Blick.
Wie Wolken von der Sonn' empfangen
Ein tiefes mildes Licht,
Und kommt der Abend auch gegangen,
Ganz nimmt er's ihnen nicht:
So leihet seine eig'ne Wonne
Dieß Lächeln selbst dem Schmerz,
Ein Glühen bleibt von dieser Sonne,
Das süß durchströmt das Herz!
R. Schumann sets stanza 1

De wenende
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Ik zag je schreien! Ach!
De traan, zij dreef op je ogenblauw
En, ja, dit oog was, dacht ik,
Een viooltje, nat van dauw.
Ik zag je glimlach --
Saffierglans week terug voor jou, met schrik;
Die held're glans bereikt hij nimmer
Die straalde uit jouw blik.
Zoals wolken van de zon ontvangen
Een diep en melkzacht licht,
En als de avond aan komt vangen,
Gooit hij niet alles dicht,
Zo doet die glimlach nog ontbloeien
Een diep geluk bij smart;
Van deze zon blijft licht nagloeien,
Dat zoet doorstroomt mijn hart.
