Mezzosoprano Al joven abandonado solo una esperanza queda, que aún le da consuelo: que aquella que desde hace años ama esté libre del hálito de la tumba en el principesco palacio de su padre; allí brotan frescas las fuentes, que dulces perfuman las salas de balsámicos aromas, y puro es allí el aire, puro como la frente por ella abanicada. Tenor Pero ved quién se acerca silenciosa y furtiva al melancólico boscaje, semeja la diosa de la salud, con sonrosadas mejillas de frescor primaveral. Es ella, y a la luz de la Luna él ve acercarse radiante a su fiel novia. Ella toma en sus brazos al amigo, apoya las rojas mejillas en las suyas pálidas, y moja en el agua sus ondulados cabellos para refrescarle la frente. El joven ¿Tu aquí? ¡Huye! ¡Un aliento mío te daría la muerte!
