Ach, kwam je, mijn liefste, nog heden!” De avond viel, de zon, die ging Aan de zoom des hemels al dalen. “Dus brengen de golven jou nooit meer weerom? Ik tuur vergeefs naar de horizon. Waar kan ik, mijn liefste, jou halen?” Het water omspeelde haar vleiend de voet, Als dromen die toveren konden; Het trok haar in ’t diepe zeer stil en gezwind: Nooit stond meer op d’ oever dat aardige kind, Zij had haar geliefde gevonden!
