Meeresstille
Language: German (Deutsch)

Sturm mit seinen Donnerschlägen
Kann mir nicht wie du
So das tiefste Herz bewegen,
Tiefe Meeresruh!
Du allein nur konntest lehren
Uns den schönen Wahn
Seliger Musik der Sphären,
Stiller Ozean!
Nächtlich Meer, nun ist dein Schweigen
So tief ungestört,
Daß die Seele wohl ihr eigen
Träumen klingen hört;
Daß im Schutz geschloss'nen Mundes,
Doch mein Herz erschrickt,
Das Geheimnis heil'gen Bundes
Fester an sich drückt.

Mer calme
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
La tempête avec ses coups de tonnerre
Ne peut pas aussi
Profondément émouvoir mon cœur
Que toi, mer calme et profonde !
Toi seul peut apprendre
À nous la belle illusion
De la merveilleuse musique des sphères,
Calme océan !
Mer nocturne, ton silence est maintenant
Si profondément paisible,
Que l'âme peut sans doute
Entendre le son de ses rêves ;
Que, sauvegardé par la bouche fermée,
Mon cœur est pourtant effrayé,
Et le secret de ce lien sacré
Il le presse plus fort contre lui.
