Was vermeid' ich denn die Wege
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): CAT DUT DUT ENG ENG ENG FIN FRE FRI HEB ITA KOR SPA
Was vermeid' ich denn die Wege,
Wo die [andren]1 Wandrer gehn,
Suche mir versteckte Stege
Durch [verschneite]2 Felsenhöhn?

Habe ja doch nichts begangen,
Daß ich Menschen sollte scheun -
Welch ein thörichtes Verlangen
Treibt mich in die Wüstenein?

Weiser stehen auf den [Straßen]3,
Weisen auf die Städte zu,
Und ich wandre sonder Maßen,
Ohne Ruh', und suche Ruh'.

Einen Weiser seh' ich stehen
Unverrückt vor meinem Blick;
Eine Straße muß ich gehen,
Die noch Keiner ging zurück.

Miksi minä oikeastaan kartan teitä
Language: Finnish (Suomi)  after the German (Deutsch)
Miksi minä oikeastaan kartan teitä,
joilla toiset vaeltajat kulkevat,
miksi etsin salaisia polkuja
lumisten kallioiden välistä?

Enhän ole tehnyt mitään, jonka
vuoksi minun täytyisi välttää ihmisiä, -
mikä mieletön kaipaus
minua ajaa erämaihin?

Teiden varsilla seisoo viittoja,
jotka ohjaavat kohti kaupunkeja,
mutta minä vaellan vaeltamistani,
rauhaa saamatta, mutta sitä etsien.

Yhden tienviitan näen seisovan
enkä saa silmiäni irti siitä;
minun on kuljettava tietä,
jolta yksikään ei ole vielä palannut.
