Je mehr Gefahr aus Schlünden,
So freyer schlägt die Brust.

Die ihm daheim geblieben,
Sich seliger bewußt.
Und ist er nun am Ziele:
So drängt sich in der Stille

A l’alta carena de les muntanyes,
on tot verdeja més fresc,
esguardar cap baix vers els camps,
quan la boira s’esvaeix,
és el gaudi del caçador dels Alps.
Quan més costeruts i escarpats
els senders serpegen,
quan més perilloses les gorges,
més lliure batega el cor.
En la estimada llunyana,
que s’ha quedat a casa,
hi pensa més joiosament.
I quan arriba a la meta,
en el silenci, una dolça imatge
s’apressa al seu davant;
els daurats raigs del sol
han teixit i pintat la figura
de la que ell a la vall ha escollit.
