Auf [hohem]1 Bergesrücken,
Wo frischer Alles grünt,
In's [Land]2 hinab zu blicken,
Das nebelleicht zerrinnt -
Erfreut den Alpenjäger.
Je steiler und je schräger
Die Pfade sich verwinden,
Je mehr Gefahr aus Schlünden,
So freyer schlägt die Brust.

Er ist der fernen Lieben,
Die ihm daheim geblieben,
Sich seliger bewußt.

Und ist er nun am Ziele:
So drängt sich in der Stille
Ein süßes [Bildniß]3 vor;

El cazador de los Alpes

En las altas crestas de las montañas,
donde todo verdea más fresco,
mirando hacia los campos abajo
a través de la ligera niebla que se desvanece,
se deleita el cazador de los Alpes. 

Cuanto más empinadas e inclinadas,
las sendas que supera,
cuanto más peligrosas las gargantas,
más libre late su corazón.
Piensa con gran felicidad
en su lejano amor, 
que permanece en el hogar. 

Y cuando ha llegado a la meta,
en la calma, estrecha
una dulce imagen suya.
Los rayos dorados del sol
tejen y pintan la imagen
de aquélla que ha elegido en el valle.
