Adés el capvespre enrogeix la vall, Hèsper resplendeix lleugerament. Els faigs estan tots en silenci i fluixet mormola el rierol. Els núvols, ribetejats d’or, voleien en el cel clar; el cor es delecta, el cor somia, apartat dels afanys terrenals. Estirat al verd tossal, el caçador està a punt d’adormir-se però, de sobte, el desperta un tro i el xiular dels llampecs. On ets tu, gloriosa vermellor del capvespre, on ets tu, benigne Hèsper? Així, en angoixa i dolor, tots els plaers es transformen.
