Fleh' ich den Schöpfer inniglich
Um Leben, dich zu lieben.

So halt' ich denn mein einzig Glück
Mit treuem Arm umfangen! 
Konnt' ich vom gütigen Geschick
Wohl Süßeres verlangen? 
Laß ewig mich in Glück und Noth
Dich nennen mein Entzücken,
Auf deiner Lippe Purpurroth

Certain of you, I shall never
Feel envy of the glamour of the world.
And if you, sweet Jeanie, feel
Yourself to be motivated by the same glow:
To the Creator I send a fervent plea
For life in which to love you.

Thus I hold my sole happiness
Embraced in my faithful arms!
Could I demand anything sweeter
From gracious fate?
For all eternity in joy and sorrow
Let me call you my delight,
Upon your crimson lips let me
Press the seal of faithfulness!
