Schlaflied
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Dutch (Nederlands)
Our translations:  ENG
Weh mir nun sachte,
Du seufzender Wind,
Wieg mir und schaukle
Das schläfende Kind,
Spiel um sein wichtelich
Antlitz gelaß;
Leise! Da schlummert
Mein Jesulein baß.

Palmen, die rührend
Und wogende seid,
Stillt um mein Kindchen
Die Zweige 'ne Zeit.
Engelchen, leise, ach
Jesulein will
Schlafen, eur Zungen
Und Harfen nu still!

Vögelchen schweigt, die da
Hüpfet und springt,
Tautröpfchen, leise, nicht
Läutet noch blinkt!
Sonne verhalte die
Sengenden Schäft, --
Kindelein Jesu
Will schlafen . . . es schläft! --

Lullaby
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Blow gently for me now,
You sighing wind,
Rock for me, rock
My sleeping child,
Play serenely about
His adorable little face;
Quiet! Then my little Jesus
Would sleep more deeply.

Ye palms, which are
Stirring and heaving,
Still your branches for
A time about my little child.
Little angels, be quiet, ah,
Little Jesus wishes
To sleep; now silence
Your tongues and your harps!

Fall silent, ye birdlets,
That hop and leap,
Dewdrops, be quiet, neither
Tinkle nor sparkle!
Sun, subdue
Your scorching beams,
Little child Jesus
Wishes to sleep . . . he sleeps! --
