Mi brucia sotto i piedi, cammino già su ghiaccio e neve, non voglio riprendere fiato, fin che non veda più le torri. Ho sbattuto su ogni sasso, affrettandomi fuori dalla città; le cornacchie gettavano sporcizia e grandine sul mio cappello da ogni casa. Come diversamente mi hai accolto, tu città dell'incostanza! Ale tue ridenti finestre cantavano a gara l'allodola e l'usignolo. I tigli rotondi fiorivano, le liete fontane scorrevano limpide, e ahimè due occhi di fanciulla ardevano. E' finita per te, amico! Se mi viene in mente il giorno, voglio ancora una volta guardare indietro, voglio di nuovo tornare indietro incerto e stare in silenzio davanti ala sua porta.
