Rückblick

Es brennt mir unter beiden Sohlen,
Tret' ich auch schon auf Eis und Schnee.
Ich möcht' nicht wieder Athem holen,
Bis ich nicht mehr die Thürme seh'.

Hab' mich an [jedem]1 Stein gestoßen,
So eilt' ich zu der Stadt hinaus;
Die Krähen warfen Bäll' und Schloßen
Auf meinen Hut von jedem Haus.

Wie anders hast du mich empfangen,
Du Stadt der Unbeständigkeit!
An deinen blanken Fenstern sangen
Die Lerch' und Nachtigall im Streit.

Die runden Lindenbäume blühten,
Die klaren Rinnen rauschten hell,
Und ach, zwei Mädchenaugen glühten! -
Da war's geschehn um dich, Gesell!

Kömmt mir der Tag in die Gedanken,
Möcht' ich noch einmal rückwärts sehn,
Möcht' ich zurücke wieder wanken,
Vor ihrem Hause stille stehn.

Sguardo indietro
Language: Italian (Italiano)  after the German (Deutsch)
Mi brucia sotto i piedi,
cammino già su ghiaccio e neve,
non voglio riprendere fiato,
fin che non veda più le torri.

Ho sbattuto su ogni sasso,
affrettandomi fuori dalla città;
le cornacchie gettavano sporcizia e grandine
sul mio cappello da ogni casa.

Come diversamente mi hai accolto,
tu città dell'incostanza!
Ale tue ridenti finestre cantavano
a gara l'allodola e l'usignolo.

I tigli rotondi fiorivano,
le liete fontane scorrevano limpide,
e ahimè due occhi di fanciulla ardevano.
E' finita per te, amico!

Se mi viene in mente il giorno,
voglio ancora una volta guardare indietro,
voglio di nuovo tornare indietro incerto
e stare in silenzio davanti ala sua porta.
