Hatt' Rosen auf den Wangen; --
Da kam die Lieb', da kam der Tod
Still durch den Lenz gegangen.
Es fiel ein Reif, ein kalter Reif,
Und welk war alles Prangen.

Ich weiß nicht, was ich traurig bin,
Mir zieht es durchs Gemüthe;
O zarte, holde Magedin,
Daß dich ein Gott behüte! --
Es fällt herab vom grünen Baum
Die rote Apfelblüthe.
