Aber zwischen zwei Palästen Glüht herein die Abendsonne, Flammend wirft sie einen grellen Breiten Streifen auf die Gondeln. In dem purpurroten Lichte Laute Stimmen, hell Gelächter, Überredende Gebärden Und das frevle Spiel der Augen. Eine kleine, kurze Strecke Treibt das Leben leidenschaftlich Und erlischt im Schatten drüben Als ein unverständlich Murmeln.
