Schwillt in jugendlichstem Flor;
Unter Schnee und Nebelschauer
Ras't ein Aetna dir hervor.

Du beschämst wie Morgenröthe
Jener Gipfel ernste Wand,
Und noch einmal fühlet Hatem
Frühlingshauch und Sommerbrand.

Schenke her! Noch eine Flasche!
Diesen Becher bring' ich Ihr!
Findet sie ein Häufchen Asche,

A vosaltres, estimades serps brunes,
no tinc res per a oferir-vos a canvi.

Tan sols els meu cor que és fidel,
s’engrandeix en la primeríssima florida;
sota els estremiments de la neu i la boira,
entra en erupció com un Etna per a tu.

Com l’aurora, tu fas enrogir
el sever flanc d’aquell cim,
i Hatem torna a sentir de nou
l’alè de la primavera i la xardor de l’estiu.

Taverner vine! Una altra ampolla!
Aquesta copa la portaré a ella!
Si ella hi troba una miqueta de cendra
dirà: “S’ha abrusat per a mi!”
