Friede sey um diesen Grabstein her!
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): CAT DUT ENG FRE ITA ITA
Friede sey um diesen Grabstein [her]1!
Sanfter Friede Gottes! Ach, sie haben
Einen guten Mann begraben,
Und mir war er mehr;

Träufte mir von Seegen, dieser Mann,
Wie ein [milder]2 Stern aus bessern Welten!
Und ich kann's ihm [nicht]3 vergelten,
Was er mir gethan.

At the grave of my father
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
 Let there be peace here at this gravestone!
 The gentle peace of God!
 Ah, you have buried a good man,
 and to me he was much more;

 This man showered blessings on me,
 like a star from a better world!
 And I cannot repay
 what he has given me.

 He passed away, and they buried him here.
 May gentle, sweet solace, given by God,
 and the promise of eternal life
 preserve his bones

 until Jesus Christ, great and exalted,
 kindly awakens him. Ah, they have buried him!
 They have buried a good man,
 and to me he was much more.
