Wenn die Sonne sinkend hinterm Berg sich...
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG ENG
[Lieder singend]3 wandeln mit den weißen Linnen;

When the sun goes down, sinking behind...

  When the sun goes [down, sinking behind]1 the mountain,
And the smoke [slowly rises]2 from the little village,
When in the valley of meadows the young bleaching-girls,
[Singing songs,]3 walk with the white linen;
When the forest falls silent and the lea rests,
And a bright rosy glow stands resplendent upon the sky,
When the [evening wind soughs]4 through the beeches
And the birdlets seek their [quiet nests]5, --
When the moon [surfaces]6 from the dark meadow
[And] slowly swims through the [deep blue]7 of the sky:
Oh [every time then, I yearn for the quiet valley,
I yearn every time for my homeland!]8
