Duette für Sopran und Bass , opus 16

by Peter Cornelius (1824 - 1874)

1. Heimatgedenken
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn die Sonne sinkend hinterm Berg sich neigt,
Und der Rauch langsam aus dem Dörflein steigt,
Wenn im Wiesenthal junge Bleicherinnen
Lieder singend wandeln mit den weißen Linnen;
Wenn der Wald schweigt und die Aue ruht
Und am Himmel prangt lichte Rosengluth,
Wenn der Abend flüstert durch die Buchen
Und die Vöglein ihre stillen Nester suchen, --
Wenn der Mond steigt aus der dunklen Au,
Langsam schwimmt durch des Himmels tiefes Blau:
O dann allemal, allemal, an mein stilles, stilles Tal,
An die Heimat denk' ich allemal.

2. Brennende Liebe
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
In meinem Garten lachet
Manch Blümlein blau und rot,
Vor allem aber machet
Die brennende Liebe mir Not.

Brauch ihrer nicht zu warten,
Sie blühet Tag und Nacht,
Wer hat mir nur zum Garten
Die brennende Liebe gebracht?

Wohin ich mich nur wende,
Blüht auch die holde Blum',
Es blühet sonder Ende
Die brennende Liebe ringsum.

Die bösen Nachbarinnen,
sie bleiben neidvoll stehn.
sie flüstern: Ach, da drinnen
Blüht brennende Liebe so schön!

3. Komm herbei, Tod
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
  Komm herbey, komm herbey, Tod!
Und versenk' in Cypressen den Leib.
Laß mich frey, laß mich frey, Noth!
Mich erschlägt ein holdseliges Weib.
Mit Rosmarin mein Leichenhemd,
  O bestellt es!
Ob Lieb' ans Herz mir tödtlich kömmt,
  Treu' hält es.

  Keine Blum', keine Blum' süß,
Sey gestreut auf den schwärzlichen Sarg.
  Keine Seel', keine Seel', grüß'
Mein Gebein, wo die Erd' es verbarg.
Um Ach und Weh zu wenden ab,
    Bergt mich alleine
Da, wo kein Treuer wall' ans Grab
    Und weine.

4. Scheiden
 (Sung text)

Language: German (Deutsch)
Die duftenden Gräser auf der Au,
Die Bäum' im grünen Kleide,
Die Halm' im frischen Morgenthau,
  Ein jedes ruft: ich scheide,
  Leb wohl! ich scheide.

Die Rosen in ihrer lichten Pracht,
Die Lilien in ihrer Engelstracht,
Die Bäum' im grünen Kleide,
Die Halm' im frischen Morgenthau,
  Ein jedes ruft: ich scheide,
  Leb wohl! ich scheide.

Ist Alles nur ein Kommen und Gehn,
Ein Scheiden mehr als Wiedersehn;
Wir freu'n uns, hoffen und leiden,
  Und müssen endlich scheiden,
  Lebt wohl! wir scheiden.

Und muss es denn geschieden sein,
Lebt wohl, lebt wohl, gedenket mein,
In Freuden und in Leiden,
Lebt wohl, lebt wohl, wir scheiden!
Lebt wohl!

Text Authorship:

  • by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798 - 1874), "Leb wohl! ich scheide", appears in Lyrische Gedichte, in Dichterleben, in Reifere Mannesjahre
