La vie ici‑bas
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
"Mère, ah, mère ! J'ai faim.
Donne-moi du pain ou je meurs !"
"Attends un peu, mon enfant chéri.
Demain nous irons vite semer."

Et quand le blé eut été semé,
l'enfant criait toujours :
"Mère, ah, mère ! J'ai faim.
Donne-moi du pain ou je meurs !"
"Attends un peu, mon enfant chéri.
Demain nous irons vite moissonner."

Et quand le blé eut été coupé,
l'enfant criait toujours :
"Mère, ah, mère ! J'ai faim.
Donne-moi du pain ou je meurs !"
"Attends un peu, mon enfant chéri.
Demain nous irons vite le battre."

Et quand le blé eut été battu,
l'enfant criait toujours :
"Mère, ah, mère ! J'ai faim.
Donne-moi du pain ou je meurs !"
"Attends un peu, mon enfant chéri.
Demain nous irons vite au moulin."

Et quand le blé eut été broyé,
l'enfant criait toujours :
"Mère, ah, mère ! J'ai faim.
Donne-moi du pain ou je meurs !"
"Attends un peu, mon enfant chéri.
Demain nous irons vite le cuire."

Et quand le blé eut été cuit
l'enfant gisait sur son lit de mort.
