Auf drückt sie ihm noch einen langen Und letzten Kuß und stirbt im Geben.

Beu les meves llàgrimes i també la meva sang, rebràs tu mateix la sang del meu cor, si pogués ser un bàlsam per a la teva ardor, si et pogués donar un minut de repòs! No apartis, oh, el teu formós rostre, és que no sóc la teva promesa, és que no sóc teva? A la vida com a la tomba, el meu lloc no ha d’estar al teu costat? Penses potser que la que només de tu rep la llum en aquest món ombrívol, podrà suportar la fosca nit que li davallarà quan es tanquin els teus ulls? Viure sense tu, tota sola, tu, vida de la meva vida, no! Oh deixa’m respirar l’aire, l’aire benaurat que tu has alenat, i el que porti en les seves ales, mort o vida, serà dolç per a mi. Tenor solo: Ella flaqueja, cau, i com una llàntia a l’hàlit metzinós de la fossa s’extingeix, així de sobte es tanquen els seus encisadors ulls, un espasme, finalitza el seu sofriment, la seva vida s’acaba. L’estreny encara en una llarga i darrera besada i mor tot donant-la.
