An den Mond
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  CAT DUT ENG FRE ITA
Was schauest du so hell und klar
Durch diese Apfelbäume,
Wo [einst dein Freund]1 so selig war,
Und träumte süße Träume?
Verhülle deinen Silberglanz,
Und schimmre, wie du schimmerst,
Wenn du den frühen Todtenkranz
Der jungen Braut beflimmerst!

Du blickst umsonst so hell und klar
In diese Laube nieder;
Nie findest du das frohe Paar
In [ihrem]2 Schatten wieder!
Ein schwarzes, feindliches Geschick
[Entriß mir meine Schöne!]3
Kein Seufzer [zaubert]4 sie zurück,
Und keine Sehnsuchtsthräne!

[O]5 wandelt sie hinfort einmal
An meiner Ruhestelle,
Dann [mache flugs mit trübem]6 Stral
Des Grabes Blumen helle!
Sie setze weinend sich aufs Grab,
Wo Rosen niederhangen,
Und pflücke sich ein Blümchen ab,
Und [drück' es an die]7 Wangen.

Tot de maan
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)  after the German (Deutsch)
Waarom kijk je zo hel en klaar
Door deze appelbomen?
Eens was je vriend gelukkig daar
En droomde zoete dromen.
Verhul nu maar je zilv'ren glans
En glim zoals je glimlacht
Als j' op de vroege dodenkrans
Der jonge bruid soms glimt zacht.

Je kijkt vergeefs zo hel en klaar
Door deze rijke blaren;
Nooit zul je meer het blije paar
In 't lommer nog ontwaren.
Een boos, zwart lot sloeg mij terneer
En heeft mijn lief gevangen!
Geen zuchten geven mij haar weer,
Geen tranen van verlangen!

O, wandelt zij nog langs eenmaal,
Langs 't graf van deze dichter,
Maak dan heel vlug met 'n fletse straal
Op 't graf de bloemen lichter!
Misschien zet zij zich schreiend neer
Waar rozen treurend hangen,
En plukt zij zich een bloempje teer
En drukt het aan haar wangen.
