Adieu ! Ne garde pas souvenir des nuages
Qui parfois ont jeté de l’ombre sur nos cœurs ;
Laisse à l’oubli les jours mauvais, les jours d’orages
Dont l’amertume a fait souvent couler tes pleurs !

À l’oubli les combats, les fatigues, les peines
Des efforts impuissants et des rêves brisés ;
Les stériles labeurs, les illusions vaines
Et l’accablant regret des vœux inapaisés !

Chasse, oh ! chasse surtout bien loin de ta pensée
Les chagrins que t’ont faits mes injustes courroux ;
Si d’un soupçon cruel ton âme fut blessée,
Bannis le souvenir de mes transports jaloux !

Mais du jour où, sur nous se levant dans sa gloire,
Le soleil de l’Amour nous brûla de ses feux,
Garde éternellement la fidèle mémoire
Et des premiers soupirs et des premiers aveux.

Oui, garde, et bénis-la toujours, la pure image
Des heures d’autrefois, où, la main dans la main,
Nous donnant l’un à l’autre espérance et courage,
Souriants, nous marchions dans le même chemin !
