Gesanglos war ich und beklommen
So lange Zeit - nun dicht ich wieder!
Wie Tränen, die uns plötzlich kommen,
So kommen plötzlich auch die Lieder.

Melodisch kann ich wieder klagen
Von großem Lieben, größerm Leiden,
Von Herzen, die sich schlecht vertragen
Und dennoch brechen, wenn sie scheiden.

Manchmal ist mir, als fühlt ich wehen
Über dem Haupt die deutschen Eichen -
Sie flüstern gar von Wiedersehen -
Das sind nur Träume - sie verbleichen.

Manchmal ist mir, als hört ich singen
Die alten, deutschen Nachtigallen -
Wie mich die Töne sanft umschlingen! -
Das sind nur Träume - sie verhallen.

Wo sind die Rosen, deren Liebe

Parfois, c'est comme si je sentais souffler
Sur ma tête les chênes d'Allemagne --
Il chuchotent même un au-revoir --
Ce ne sont que des rêves -- ils s'estompent.
