An die Wolken

Und immer wieder,
wenn ich mich müde gesehn
an der Menschen Gesichtern,
so vielen Spiegeln
[unsäglicher]1 Torheit,
hob ich das Aug
über die Häuser und Bäume
empor zu euch,
ihr ewigen Gedanken des Himmels.
Und eure Größe und Freiheit
erlöste mich immer wieder,
und ich dachte mit euch
über Länder und Meere hinweg
und hing mit euch
überm Abgrund Unendlichkeit
und zerging zuletzt
wie Dunst,
wenn ich ohn' Maßen
den Samen der Sterne
fliegen sah
über die Äcker
der unergründlichen Tiefen.

Aux nuages
Language: French (Français)  after the German (Deutsch)
Toujours
quand j'étais fatigué de voir
l'indicible folie
dans le miroir
de tant de figures humaines,
je levais les yeux
au-dessus des maisons et des arbres,
jusqu'à vous,
pensées éternelles du ciel.
Et votre grandeur et votre liberté
me délivraient toujours,
et avec vous mes pensées
partaient au-delà des pays et des mers
et avec vous j'étais suspendu
au-dessus de l'abîme de l'infinité,
et finalement je me dissolvais
en vapeur,
quand je voyais
la semence des étoiles
voler sans mesure
au-dessus des champs
des profondeurs insondables.
