Wer will mir die Leier zerbrechen,

Noch glühet die Kraft, mich zu rächen.

Heran, heran, ihr alle,
Wer immer sich erkühnt,
Aus dunkler Felsenhalle
Ist mir die Leier [ergrünt]1.

Ich habe das Holz gespalten
Aus riesigem Eichenbaum,
Worunter einst die Alten
Umtanzten Wodans Saum.

Die Saiten raubt ich der Sonne,
Den purpurnen, glühenden Strahl,
Als einst sie in seliger Wonne
Versankt in das blühende Tal.

Aus alter Ahnen Eichen,
Aus rotem Abendgold
Wirst Leier du nimmer weichen,
So lang die Götter mir hold.

Qui veut briser ma lyre ?
C'est encore le jour,
La force de me venger brûle encore.

Venez, venez, vous tous,
Quiconque est audacieux,
Dans la grotte sombre
Ma lyre a été faite pour moi.

J'ai fendu le bois
Du chêne géant,
Sous lequel une fois les anciens
Ont dansé à la lisière de la forêt de Wotan.

Pour les cordes j'ai volé au soleil
Des rayons pourpres et brillants,
Alors qu'une fois dans un ravissement bienheureux
Il plongeait dans la vallée en fleurs.

Des chênes anciens des ancêtres,
De l'or rouge du soir,
Ma lyre, jamais tu ne me quitteras,
Aussi longtemps que les dieux me souriront.
