Nun steh ich über Grat und Kluft
In abendlichen Rosen
Und höre durch die klare Luft
Das Leben tief vertosen.

Ein Adler rauscht ins Tal hinab,
Wo meine Toten schlafen,
Was ich geliebt dort unten hab,
Weiß ich in sicherm Hafen.

Und bin nun über Leid und Zeit
Und meinen Sternen näher
Und schaue in die Ewigkeit,
Ein stillgemuter Späher.

Durch eine selige Bläue schwimmt
Ein Nachen da herüber,
Naht, neigt den schwanken Bord und nimmt
Sanft schaukelnd mich hinüber.

Dans les roses du couchant
Et dans l'air clair j'entends
En bas le tumulte de la vie.

Un aigle plonge en trombe dans la vallée,
Là où dorment mes morts,
Ce que là bas j'ai aimé,
Je le sais, se trouve dans un havre sûr.

J'ai maintenant dépassé la souffrance et le temps
Et plus près de mon étoile
Et dans l'éternité je vois
Un éclaireur au courage tranquille.

Dans l'azur bienheureux flotte
Une nacelle jusque vers moi,
Elle s'approche, penche sa coque ballante et me prend
Doucement à son bord.
