Als das Christkind war zur Welt gebracht,
Das uns von der Hölle gerettet,
Da lag's auf der Krippe bei finstrer Nacht,
Auf Stroh und Heu gebettet;
Doch über der Hütte glänzte der Stern,
Und der Ochse küßte den Fuß des Herrn.
Halleluja, Kind Jesus!

Ermanne dich, Seele, die krank und matt,
Vergiß die nagenden Schmerzen.
Ein Kind ward geboren in Davids Stadt
Zum Trost für alle Herzen.

Het lag in de kribbe in donkere nacht
Op stro en hooi te bedde;
Maar boven de hut was sterrengloed
En de os, hij kuste des Heren voet.
Alleluja, Kind Jezus!
 
Vat moed, arme ziel, toch, hoe ziek en mat,
Vergeet de knagende pijnen.
Een kind werd geboren in Davids stad
Tot troost van al de zijnen.
O, laat ons heengaan naar 't kind met spoed
En kind'ren worden in geest en gemoed.
