Avui la primavera ha nascut, un infant de l’espècie més formosa; tot i que encara jau en un llit blanc, ja juga tan meravellosament, veniu doncs, vosaltres, els ocells del sud i porteu noves cançons! Vosaltres fonts, totes, desperteu-vos a la vall! Per què vacil•leu encara? Heu de parlar amb el petit infant! Tritllegen els lliris de maig! Bim – bam – bam! Què vol dir això? Es casa la primavera: Avui se celebra el seu casament amb la terra, amb gran pompa i solemnitat. Vinga doncs, clavells i tulipes, brandeu les acolorides banderes de noces! Vosaltres, roses i lliris, orneu-vos, aviat heu de ser les donzelles d’honor! Vosaltres papallones, virolades i lleugeres, heu de dirigir la dansa nupcial i els ocells han de fer la música! Tritllegen les blaves campànules! Bim – bam – bim! Què vol dir això? Ai, és una mala notícia! Aquesta nit la primavera ha de marxar, doneu-li doncs els saluts de comiat: passen les lluernes amb llurs llumetes brillants, mormola el bosc, la font es plany, entremig, amb un dolç ressò, canta el rossinyol a cada matoll, i del seu cant no es cansa mai tot i que la primavera ja és lluny, tots l’havien estimat tant!

Car de mestres ja n’hi ha massa; si un munt d’ells en caigués, com, a nosaltres els aprenents, ens empiparien tots aquests mestres malgrat les nostres obres mestres. “Del cel no cau cap mestre!” Gràcies a Déu, tampoc cap mestressa! Oh cel benigne, sigues bondadós, si allà dalt n’hi ha una que botzina, guarda-la en la teva gràcia, perquè per fer-nos mal no caigui a la terra! “Del cel no cau cap mestre!” Tampoc cap filla d’un mestre! Prou que ho sé de fa molt temps i, tanmateix, seria un gran goig si una noia jove, formosa i alegre caigués del cel i volgués ser la meva estimada! “Del cel no cau cap mestre!” Això em reconforta en aquest món; i per això vull esdevenir un mestre, i si se m’ofereix una dona, llavors aquesta terra seria per a mi un cel del qual no en cauria cap mestre.

Sandt' es Pagen, fein und listig; Heimlich schlichen hin die Finger, Schmiegten leise sich und bittend An die schönsten Finger. Sandt' es ab zwei kühne Boten; Sind die Lippen gar verwogen An der Herrin Mund geflogen, Botschaft sich zu holen. "Nun, ihr Boten, Pagen, Diener! Fa temps, la més bella de totes les dames tenia el meu cor tan fortament captivat que no podia dir cap mot des de les fermes cadenes. Aleshores, com àgils servents, ell enviava ràpids i ardents esguards d’amor, per tenir una silent conversa amb els ulls de la meva dama. Enviava patges, gràcils i astuts; furtivament els dits s’esquitllaven, suplicant poder estrènyer les mans més formoses. Enviava dos agosarats missatgers; els llavis, molt audaços, volaven vers la boca de la meva dama per rebre resposta, „Doncs bé, missatgers, patges, servents, quin missatge em porteu, els ulls, els dits, els llavis, no tenen res a fer-me saber?“ I plens de joia, tots cridaren: Alegra’t cor! I deixa de tenir por, la teva dama ara t’envia la seva mercè, han caigut les teves cadenes!
