In den Wald bin ich geflüchtet,  
Ein zu Tod gehetztes Wild,  
Da die letzte Glut der Sonne  
Längs den glatten Stämmen quillt.                             
Keuchend lieg ich. Mir zu Seiten  
Blutet, siehe, Moos und Stein -  
Strömt das Blut aus meinen Wunden?  
Oder ist's der Abendschein?

Gibier forcé à mort,
Là, les dernières ardeurs du soleil
Jaillissent le long des troncs lisses.
Je suis étendu, haletant. À mon côté,
Vois, le sang sur la mousse et la pierre ;
Le sang coule-t-il de mes blessures ?
Ou bien est-ce la lumière du soir ?
